In the summer of 2025, the interior lighting fixtures on the first floor of Bird Library were replaced with LEDs. Over 400 fixtures were replaced, reducing the energy use from lighting by nearly 70%. We anticipate a reduction of 31.76 MTCO2e annually.
The project took roughly two months to complete.

Lighting fixtures on the second floor of Bird Library were replaced in the fall of 2025. The anticipated yearly savings from this project is 37 MTCO2e. Crews completed the first phase of replacements on the third floor in January 2025, accounting for a 12 MTCO2e reduction annually. This number will increase when the entire floor is complete.
