Use Less Paper

  • Go paperless. Pay stubs, newsletters and meeting agendas can all be done electronically.
  • Use double-sided and black and white default settings for all printers and copiers.

Conserve Water

  • Report any leaky faucets, running toilets or any other water waste to Physical Plant using the Request Form to help the University conserve our natural resources.

Conserve Energy

Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Use a smart power strip for your electronics and chargers. Smart power strips only supply electricity to devices actively in use. If you don’t have a smart power strip, use a regular one but turn it off when your electronics are fully charged, when you’re not actually using your devices and when you leave for the day. Purchase Energy Star office equipment and use the power-saving settings. This applies to copiers, fax machines and printers.

Campus Energy Resources

If you work on campus, remember to report energy waste, rooms too hot or cold and water leaks. Head to the Campus Facilities, Administration and Services site to fill out the proper request form for the issue you’re having.

You can even schedule an advanced heating or cooling request. Note: If your request is being submitted with less than 24 hours notice, please also contact the 24-Hour Energy Management Operations Center at 315-443-1535. The established temperature guidelines for occupied spaces are 68 degrees from September 15-May 15 and 76 degrees from May 16-September 14. Some exceptions include laboratories, research areas, and art/book archives.

Fill out the Materials Distribution Pick-up/Delivery Form for any University department to request pick-up of confidential shredding, used toner cartridges, UPS/FedEx shipping. The form also allows for delivery of re-purposed excess property items and storage items from Hawkins Warehouse.

Transportation

Syracuse University has many great sustainable transportation options available. Walk to campus or utilize the many bike lanes connecting the University and the community. Many bus routes are available for free to students, faculty and staff. Check out the GoCentroBus app for maps and bus times.
